Unit 1

Lesson 1

  • Welcoming Speech

This year the class will be divided into four houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin.

  • Sorting Ceremony

Here is the repartition for this year.

When I call your name you will join your house and discuss the organisation.

  • House organization

In your house, you will have :

-     a prefect (oversees what everybody does, in charge of examples and checking that everybody is doing their job, says "hello" at the beginning of the lessons)

-  someone calling roll (calls out the names and takes care of the computer)

-  someone in charge of paper (deals the worksheet, goes to print them, picks up any homework and checks for the signature if needed)

-     a board master (checks that the classroom is clean, cleans the board and writes the date)

-     the time master (checks the time and alerts the teacher at the end of an activity)

On your table, there are two papers: one with the calendar of what house is in charge when, and the other where you need to put your names in for the rest of the year.

  • Points

To earn points for your house you can:

-     give a good answer, or participate positively

-     be a cutie pie

To lose points :

-     behave badly

-     have a gum in class

Lesson 3

Try to build sentences around those information.

In English, a sentence needs three things: one subject, one verb and one object -> I love you.

Let's start simple. We'll focus on the subject. Watch the video:

These are the subject pronouns (cf. Bescherelle p.24)

To check your understanding, do the exercices below:

Now, let's focus on the auxiliary BE (cf. Bescherelle p.6)

Below, there is a worksheet. First, learn how to conjugate BE. Then, do the exercice!

Lesson 4

Now, write sentences with the information from the tables. Simple sentences.

-> correction

Have a look at the sentences: "... their first meeting / His friends are ... "

Now, let's talk about possessive adjectives (cf. Bescherelle p.26 1ère partie + exercice 1& 4)

Watch the video below and explain in French what you think.

  • Do the exercice:

Lesson 5

For the song, try to remember the lyrics and then fill in the blanks below.

Fill in the worksheet and do the exercices in your copybook.

  • How many ways of saying "hello" do you know? -> activity

-> with your neighbour, learn the text and change it according to the clock appearing below.

Lesson 6

  • In pairs, create a dialogue using words and sentences seen in class. Then, work on your pronunciation and get ready

=> Introduce yourself and two of your friends to your classmates

Lesson 7

  • Look at the card below
  • What information do we have on HP’s ID card? => TRACE ECRITE

Make your own:

Lesson 8

  • Hand in your ID card to the teacher to receive their official stamp
  • Then get ready to introduce yourself
  • What information do you have? Write the sentences to introduce yourselves (name / age / date of birth / ID number).

Now, let's have a look on how to ask the questions:

-> to ask a question in English, start with the answer. Find out the information and choose the question word accordingly. Switch the verb BE and the subject => WH + BE + subject + ?

My name is Jeanne -> What is your name?

I am 15 -> How old are you?

My date of birth is July, 26th -> What is your date of birth?

I was born on July, 26th -> When were you born?

My ID number is 26 -> What is your ID number?

Lesson 9

  • Practice your questions and your answers with your neighbour

Activity

Only the students from two houses will be given ID cards. The other students have to ask them questions (only one per turn) to find their ID card. Once they have found them, they go to the teacher and ask for one. At the end, everyone should have found their own ID card. You can only ask one question and everything has to be done in English. The prefects are in charge of monitoring the game.

Board game

In this unit, find three things that could be useful for the board game.
