Unit 6

Lesson 1

Have a look at the document and figure out the title of the unit: 3 words, 19 letters (FIRST WORK EXPERIENCE)

Then read the Unit Goals and create the problematic.

Divide the class into groups of 3. Then, each member of the group will be given a number and join people with the same number in the classroom: number 1 is going to work on a picture, number 2 is going to work on a text and number 3 is going to work on the video below. Take notes on each document.

Then, go back to your group and explain to the other the document you had and fill in the worksheet.

Then write a dialogue between yourselves: 2 parents and one child. Convince and advise your child in getting a job. Give the arguments in favour. Your child will give the arguments against. In the end, you have to convince them!

Lesson 2

Have a look at the picture below.

What are the elements present in this job advert? Why is it described as the best job in the world?

Do the worksheets below.

In groups of 4, match the jobs with their duties and their description. Then, for each job, match the correct adjectives. Put the results in the table.

 Chief Funster (6)
Outback adventurer (8)
Wildlife caretaker  (4)
 Lifestyle photographer (6)
 Taste Master  (4)
 Park Ranger (2)

Define different categories of work. Then dispatch all the categories between yourselves and create an advert describing the best job in the world. You need to define its duties and what you expect your applicant to be (use adjectives). Give the salary as well.

Lesson 3

Watch the movie The Internship.

Is a good employee what you expect at first?

Lesson 4

Imagine 7 questions you could ask future applicants. Then do a job dating: divide the class into two groups. Sit facing each other. One side will ask questions, the other will answer.

Lesson 5

Walk around the room and have a look at the posters created in Lesson 2. Choose 2 jobs you want to apply to and try to get hired. Bring arguments and convince them to hire you. Then choose 1 other job you do not want to apply to and try not getting it. Each interviewer will have to decide on the two best candidates and write them a letter hiring them. Another letter will have to be sent to the worst applicant.

Lesson 6 - Final Task

You have received your letters. If you have been chosen, go back to the final interview and face your opponent. The class will choose between the two of you. You will have to:

  • explain what you bring to the job
  • define your qualities and your flaws
  • explain why this job is so important to you

For those who haven't no be chosen, you will explain what you did wrong and what you could do better for next time.
