Unit 5

Lesson 1

Do the Genial.ly below and figure out the title of the unit: 3 words 14 letters (UNCLE STAN'S ARMY).

Now watch the video below and take notes.

1st listening: concentrate on dividing the document into 3 main ideas.

2nd listening: add information concerning each of the three ideas.

3rd listening: check your information.

Once it's all done, with your neighbour, create a mindmap summarizing all your information.

Then read the Unit Goals and figure out the problematic.

Lesson 2

Divide the class in groups of 3. In each group, pick a number (1, 2 or 3). Join the place with the document and study it. Then, you will go back to your group and share your findings of the document WITHOUT the document. You can use notes, mind maps, tables, schematics,... in order to better understand the unit.

Group A:

Group B:

Group C:

Once it is done: imagine a poster to motivate people to come and have a look at your exhibition.

Then make a list of vocabulary you needed, and then create a game around it: a linking activity (definition and word, translation and word...), a crossword, etc. And give the list to your teacher.

Lesson 3

In groups of 3, study the movie poster given to you by your teacher. Use the table below to write the information.

Then, go to other groups and write down the similarities.

To finish, organise your information so that you are describing all the 10 pictures at once. In groups of 5, give yourself a number and when it is called become either the runner (3 minutes) or the secretary (5 minutes). Produce the complete description of the 10 pictures.

Lesson 4

Watch the video below and define the main ideas developed: (propaganda and movies, propaganda and the Avengers, conspiracy theorists)

Then consider the movie poster you had last lesson and in a short presentation developing the same ideas explain how your movie could be used as propaganda.

Lesson 5

Have a look at the text and try to fill in the blanks with the words given to the students of the class. Then make a list of why Stan Lee is so important and what he did.

Lesson 6 - Final Task

In groups of 3, pick one character. You will have to contribute to the renewal of your character.

First:

  • identify their flaws: when they were first published, what they represented and why it doesn't work anymore (if possible)

Second:

  • make them more modern: they have to keep their traits but in a more modern setting.

Third:

  • use them for propaganda on a current issue.

Those three aspects need to be presented on a poster which will be exposed in the school library.
