Lesson 1

Read the documents (+ p. 290) and then fill in the table with the different informations gathered.

Lesson 2

Watch the video below without the sound. Concentrate on what you see to discover the documents and try to make links with what you know of the History of the USA. 

Draw hypotheses about the document and the different events. To help you try to fill the document:

Then, watch it with the sound and try to take notes on names, dates and events.

Lesson 3:

In groups of 3, pick a topic and so some research on it and how this topic relates to the Unit. To help you, for each topic you will receive a new document to study. You will have to make a recap of your topic to your classmates: easy enough so that they can take notes but with lots of information. Create three questions with four different answers and underline the correct one. 

Everyone has to take notes on the different topics so that you'll be able to play a Kahoot later. 

Topic 1: NRA

Have a look at the document on p.18, listen to the audio below and answer the questions.

Topic 2: The 2nd Amendment

Have a look at the document on p.18, answer the questions and read the slideshow below.

Topic 3: A history of violence

Read the text on p.19 and answer do questions 2, 3 and 4.

Topic 4: Gun culture

Have a look at the picture below (p.20) and gather information: what attracts your attention? Compare it to the 2nd picture (p.25)

Topic 5: Bowling for Columbine

Have a look at the movie poster below, do some research to confirm your ideas and sum up the movie to your classmates.

Read the article below and watch the video and comment on it.

Have a look at the Culture tips on p.20 and at the cartoon below. Do some research if necessary to comment on them.

Lesson 4

Listen to the presentations, take notes and play the Kahoot game. 

Lesson 5

Separate the class into three groups. You can work in pairs inside your group. Fill in the worksheet below as precisely as you can since it will help the other groups.

1st group: listen to the audio, take notes and get as much information as you can.

2nd group: read the transcript, look up words you don't know and try to sum up the scene.

3rd group: watch the video without the sound and imagine what could be happening. 

Now, divide your group into two groups as follows:

A - C / B - F / D - E 

Exchange the information between yourselves and then write a short summary per group to explain what is happening in the document. 

Lesson 6 - Final Task

Start with the Video Marathon below. Take notes on important elements to help you with your Final Task

Watch Obama's speech. Identify the elements which could help you deliver a speech and have a look at the different documents below as well. 

Final Task: 

In pairs, you are going to work on an intervention done in front of people during a gunshow. You will first pick if you are in favour or against firearms. 

Then, you will write a speech to convince the audience. One of you will be a politician explaining the politics linked to firearms and the other will be a guest discussing their experience (good or bad depending on what you have picked).
