Unit 2

Lesson 1

Have a look at the document below and figure out the title of the unit (4 words - 10 letters)  _   _ _ _    _ _ _     _ _ _  A JOB FOR ALL

Francisco Graells, aka Pancho, is a newspaper cartoonist born on April 9, 1944 in Caracas, in Venezuela. He has worked with Canard enchaîné and has also published his drawings in Le Monde, New York Review of Books and in The Guardian.

After reading the Unit Goals, in groups of 4, fill in the table with the information that you have. Use bullet points.

 Introduction
Description
Analysis
Conclusion

Divide the class in groups of 4. Each group will receive a type of discrimination. Explain to the class what your discrimination is and what it does. Then imagine the different reasons that could have been given by the interviewer not to hire a person and conclude on why it is important to fight discrimination in the workplace.

To do so, read about the modals and use them in your presentation.

Lesson 2

Listen to Martin and take notes on his experience. Try to make a list of all the different topics he speaks about and try to organise them in a mind map.

Below is an inspiration for your mind map.

Once you have defined all the categories, imagine writing down Martin's resume. Create a draft of his resume with a presentation and add some details you think are missing in the audio.

Afterwards, check you work with Anna's resume. Add new elements with a different colour and hand in  your final resume.

To give you other ideas on the organisation, check the other resume below:

Lesson 3

Divide the class into four groups: you will have to do the three activities.

1st activity: Word Search

2nd activity: Vocabulary

3rd activity: Memory

All the words are face down on the table. Bring together the word and their translation. Try to be the quickest. Once you're finished, check the results, if you have some wrongs, then, add 5 seconds as a penalty to your final time.

4th activity: Pair Up

Divide your group into two. One will have the words in French, the other in English. Stand facing each other. One member will read the word in English outloud (pay attention to the phonetic translation). If you think you have the word in French, raise your hand but DO NOT SHOW OR SAY ANYTHING. Pair up and let the others pair up as well. Try to be the quickest. For each wrong add 10 seconds to your final time.

Then do the quick exercice:

Lesson 4 - Final Task

You have been a victim of work discrimination in the past and you are doing a new job interview. You will need to record a video of yourself for your application (less than two minutes, more than 20 seconds).

It requires:

  • a short presentation of yourself
  • your skills
  • your education
  • your work experience
  • the reasons you chose to take a year off
  • what you hope it will bring you
  • why they should take you and not anybody else!

To do so:

  • start with organising your ideas: reasons, type, skills,...
  • then go back to the unit and check your vocabulary/grammar/...
  • read the document below to help you

Then, watch the video below to understand what you should and shouldn't do.

GOOD LUCK!
